The Great Destinations Radio Show

The Great Destinations Radio Show launched in May 2016. The weekly show is aimed at 35-64 year old travellers. It airs in one and two-hour versions on around sixty UK radio stations. You can hear us on FM, AM or DAB in destinations as diverse as the Scottish Highlands to the Scilly Isles and Norwich to Pembrokeshire.

We present a mix of features, on-location reports, reviews and expert interviews to inspire curious and interested travellers. Each week we share stories and travel tips from two professional travellers – a travel blogger and a travel writer. There’s a weekly segment on staycations, hobby holidays and travel technology, too.

If you once backpacked but now expect some convenience and comfort as you learn about the history, culture, food and unique experiences around the world, this is the show for you. Affordable travel and money saving tips are a strong theme of the programme. Our listeners don’t want luxury at any cost!

Keri Jones

Keri Jones is the producer and presenter of the Great Destinations Radio Show. Keri knows Britain well. He was born in Cardiff and during a 29-year radio career he’s lived and worked across the country from Yorkshire to Devon, Essex to Carmarthenshire. Keri’s passion for travel developed further during his ten years of managing Radio Scilly on the Isles of Scilly. Living in a tourism community gave Keri the opportunity to travel during the winter. He developed a weekly travel show for the station, which proved popular, so in late 2015, Keri decided to work on producing the programme full-time. Keri says his favourite city is Napier in New Zealand but closer to home he loves Barcelona and Biarritz. He’d recommend Oregon and Colorado for anyone who wants to see a different side to the United States. He’s most proud to have stamps in his passport for Tuvalu in the South Pacific and the British territories of Montserrat and the Falklands. In Britain, he’s enjoying discovering Dorset where he now lives. Keri’s claim to fame includes having a curry every day during a month-long tour of New Zealand in 2005! His favourite food tip is to try the mussel tapas at Coromandel Mussel Kitchen in New Zealand although the Pasteis de Nata custard tarts in Lisbon do come a close second!

Andy Hargreaves

Andy Hargreaves manages the website and online presence of the show.   Like Keri, Andy is well travelled. He grew up in Australia and the UK and worked for a large international company, which gave him the chance to travel extensively in Europe, the USA and the Far East. He also spent time living and working in Eastern France. Travelling for business means Andy picked up lots of top tips for getting through airports quickly, packing for speed and bagging the best seats on a flight! Andy’s favourite holiday spot is the small seaside resort of Sitges near Barcelona and he also loves New Zealand, the French-speaking city of Quebec in Canada and Hong Kong. And his must-try food tip is the smoked eel in Tokyo – he says it tastes much better than it sounds!
