If you or your family are big fans of amusement parks, you should check out the Theme Park Tourist website before planning your 2017 trips.
The site lists hundreds of parks in the USA, UK, Europe and Asia with details of the history, attractions and facilities. There are visitor reviews of some of the rides and on-site catering options. There’s also up-to-date news about seasonal opening times, special events, new attractions and whether there’s any planned maintenance of any of the main rides.
I took a look at the listing for Cedar Point Park in Sandusky, Ohio, which is the second oldest amusement park in the USA. It opened in 1870. It bills itself as ‘The Rollercoaster Capital of the World’ and their lineup includes Millennium Force – the first rollercoaster to go above 300ft. That gets good reviews from people who have been brave enough to ride it.
The site also told me that Disneyland Hong Kong is to become the first Marvel-themed park in their portfolio with the opening of a new Iron Man Experience ride. So if you’re a fan of the comic-inspired films, this could be the place to head for in 2017.
There’s a ‘World Top 100 Attractions’ list based on user votes. Currently topping the bill is ‘Nitro’ – a 230ft high, 80 mile-per-hour rollercoaster at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey.
The site is worth exploring beyond the listings and reviews. There are some interesting articles such as how companies are trying to reduce queuing time at parks – not always with success – and how to save money on snacks and food.
