Croatia is now the most searched for destination on the internet according to Lonely Planet.
The Eastern European nation is known for its beautiful Dalmatian coast on the Adriatic and the unspoiled mediaeval city of Dubrovnik. That’s encouraged 2.7% of travellers to search for the country.
The publisher used search engine data to reveal that Greece was the second-most searched for with 2.5% of hits and Turkey tied with Thailand in third at 2.47%.
Americans were mainly interested in a trip to the United Kingdom and that’s been fuelled in part by a better exchange rate as the pound has fallen against the dollar. US travellers also looked up Mexico and Cuba.
Most people in Britain were looking for a destination at home, but next in line came Thailand, Turkey, Australia and Mexico.
