If you’re planning a break in Britain, the website cheaprooms.co.uk has looked at the average price for a double room in a guesthouse or hotel in August.
They surveyed thirty popular seaside towns. Properties had to be within walking distance of the beach, with at least three stars.
The best deal was in Blackpool, where the average rate was £42 a night. Next came Swansea at £56 and Llandudno at £52.
Poole in Dorset was the third most expensive place to stay at £128. Second was the Scottish resort of Oban at £132 and the most expensive – almost four times the cost of Blackpool – was St Ives in Cornwall at £164.
