The narrow, often-cobbled streets of San Juan’s Old Town were built before the motorcar. When the settlement was named in 1521, providing easy access for drivers wasn’t an issue! Although there are parking garages, many people would prefer to find a free space. Apparently you need to get up early in the morning to increase your chance of success.
Or you might come across a space minder. This man frenetically pointed and shouted at passing motorists for ten minutes in order to alert them to a space he’d found. He’s not alone, there’s a burgeoning business in space minding. But beware – if you decide to park in the spot he’s highlighted, he’ll expect a finder’s fee!
